In August 2020 Dragana Sotirovski was elected the first female Mayor of Niš in the history of the city. The election for the Mayor was preceded by a twenty-five-year career as a journalist, during which she signed, as the author, numerous informative miniatures and documentary shows that were permanently recorded and left for safekeeping in the Program Archives of Radio Television of Serbia. She was a journalist and reporter in crisis situations throughout Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and Bulgaria. She reported on the activities of the highest state leadership of Serbia and statesmen from the region, not only in Serbia, but also during the visits of Serbian officials to countries in the region, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina. She is the winner of numerous awards and recognitions at international and domestic festivals of journalistic creativity, among which is the award for journalistic courage.
Since the beginning of her term of office Mayor of Niš Dragana Sotirovski, together with her team, has been working dedicatedly to provide her fellow citizens with an optimal quality of life with the greatest possible protection of resources through comprehensive reform and innovation. All activities are aimed at achieving ambitious goals for the development of Niš by implementing innovative solutions with a focus on the areas of urban development, infrastructure, mobility, adaptation to climate change, circular economy, digitization and smart cities. In two consecutive mandates, she was elected the president of the Club of Cities and Municipalities with a Favorable Business Environment, which is a confirmation of the results achieved together with the National Alliance for Local Economic Development in dialogue with ministries, public enterprises and the international community in the implementation of capacity building projects and the development of local self-government.
