Saridaki Zacharenia (Zenia) (F), MD, PhD, is a Medical Oncologist. She is the President of the BoD of HeSMO (the 1st woman and the youngest ever serving at this position) now in her 2nd two–year term. She has been elected in this institution continuously since 2013. She is a Director Medical Oncologist, at the 1st Oncology Dept. in the Metropolitan Hospital in Athens (Private Sector, since January 2022) and the Scientific Director of the Oncology Department «ASKLEPIOS Diagnosis» in Heraklion Crete (Private Sector, since March 2012). Since December 2022, she is the Coordinator of the Scientific Working Group dedicated to the formation and establishment of the 1st National Cancer Registry at the Ministry of Health, appointed by the Minister of Health.
She acquired her Medical Degree from the Medical School of the University of Crete (1997) and her PhD, with the Ph.Doctoral Thesis entitled: “Genomic analysis of microsatellite DNA sequences in skin cancer” from the University of Crete, Medical School (2002) with the Grade: “Distinction”. After receiving her Medical Oncology Specialty Certification in 2007, she has been a full time postdoctoral scientific researcher in the Center for Human Genetics O&N1 in the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium for 1 year (2011), where she worked on colorectal cancer translational research and a recipient of a research fellowship from HeSMO for 1-year of post-graduating training abroad. She is an author or co-author in 60 publications in cited scientific journals (2863 citations, 26 h-index, 40 i10-index, 260.848 total impact factor, 4.347 average impact factor), the majority of which in the field of medical and translational oncology and she has participated in many clinical trials, as SI and PI. She is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) (since 2008) and the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) (since 2010). She served as the Deputy Managing Editor of the official scientific journal of HeSMO, Forum of Clinical Oncology (FCO), from 2014 until the end of 2017. She has been the Chair of the Organizing Committee in the 2 Annual National (Panhellenic) Congresses held by HeSMO in 2022 and 2023, and a co-organizer as a member of the Organizing and/or Scientific Committee, invited chair and speaker in numerous national and international congresses in Greece.
