Petros Bakakos is Professor of Respiratory Medicine in Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
He graduated from Medical School of Ioannina. He was specialized in Respiratory Medicine and then in Critical Care Medicine in “Sotiria” Hospital in Athens.
He continued his post-graduation training in UK as Research and Clinical Fellow in Infection Inflammation and Repair Research Division - University Medicine of University of Southampton.
His main research focus is obstructive airway diseases and mainly bronchial asthma and COPD.
He served as the Greek National Delegate in ERS (2014-2017) and as a co-ordinator of the Asthma Group of the Hellenic Thoracic Society.
He has served as the Secretary Special of the Hellenic Thoracic Society (2019-2022) and he is the current Secretary General of the Hellenic Thoracic Society.
He has been working in the 1st University Department of Respiratory Medicine, “Sotiria” Chest Hospital since 2005 and he is the Director of the Department since 8/2023.
He has served as a reviewer in more than 25 medical journals (such as Eur Respir J, Lancet Resp. Med, Resp Med).
