Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Cyprus

Mr. Yoshio Yamawaki was appointed Ambassador of Japan to Cyprus in October 2022. Prior to this appointment, he served in Japan as Director General for Science, Technology and Innovation at the Cabinet Office from 2016 and as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) from 2018 until 2020. He also held other senior MEXT positions, including Director General for International Affairs in 2014 and Deputy Director General of the Research Promotion Bureau in 2013 He completed postgraduate studies at the University of Tokyo in 1984 with a master’s degree in civil engineering.
