Alec Russell is Foreign Editor of the Financial Times, responsible for overseeing international coverage and its correspondents. Previously he was editor of the FTWeekend, news editor and opinion editor. For much of his career he was a foreign correspondent based in the Balkans, southern Africa and Washington. He has written three books, the latest "After Mandela" on the prospects for South Africa after apartheid, and won many awards.
