Kostas Arvanitis was born in June '64 and grew up in Sepolia, Attica. He is vice-chair of the Left Group in the European Parliament for the first half of the current parliamentary term and co-chair of the group for the second half and is the head of the SY.RIZ.A.-PA delegation in the European Parliament. He is a member of the Central Committee of the SY.RIZ.A.-PA. In 2019, he was elected for the first time as a member of the European Parliament with SY.RIZ.A.-PS. As a part of the Left in the European Parliament he served as a member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) and the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL). In 2024 he was re-elected, securing the largest number of votes in the SYRIZA ballot. He has been active as a journalist, TV presenter and broadcaster active since 1984. He has worked in executive positions in leading media. He has worked with Athens newspapers and magazines. He is a member of the JUADN. He was a member of the Board of Directors of KETHEA (Therapy Center for Dependent Individuals) for several years, additionally serving as Vice President until 2017. He has also participated in the activities of therapeutic communities since 1987, alongside his journalistic career.
