Achilles C. Emilianides is a Professor of Law, Dean of the School of Law at the University of Nicosia, and a practicing advocate. He has been elected as the President of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts, i.e. the national Academy of Cyprus, after having served for five years as its Secretary-General. He is an Ordinary Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He holds an LLB, LLM and PhD in Law from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and an LLM from Leicester University. He has research work in the fields of European and comparative law, as well as in public, private and commercial law. He has been co-ordinator in several funded projects and is a member of the BoD of various academic organisations. During the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU, he chaired the Civil Law Working Group. He is also Chair of the Royal Commonwealth Society Cyprus Branch.
