Before being appointed as Head of the EIB Group Office in Bucharest, Marius Cara served as Deputy Head of the Investor Relations and Sustainable Finance Division at the European Investment Bank (EIB). In this role, he was responsible for maintaining regular dialogue with investors, rating agencies, credit and market analysts, as well as for broader market communication regarding EIB developments.

In the area of green bonds and sustainable finance, Marius closely follows market and regulatory developments. He has been directly involved in the promotion and marketing of the EIB’s sustainable debt products - Climate Awareness Bonds and Sustainability Awareness Bonds - and in presenting the EIB’s strategy at conferences and investor events.

In 2021, Marius was seconded to the European Commission for a period of three years to support the NextGeneration EU funding programme. The main objectives of this secondment were to provide technical expertise and help build the Commission’s investor relations capacity.

Marius joined the EIB in 2006 as Advisor to the Audit Committee and moved to the Capital Markets Department in 2011. Prior to joining the EIB, he worked for several years as an internal auditor within the United Nations system and as a consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers.

He holds a degree in Business Administration from the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, Romania, and is a Fellow Chartered Certified Accountant (FCCA). He is also a member of the Romanian Chamber of Financial Auditors (CAFR) and the Romanian Body of Expert and Chartered Accountants (CECCAR).

 

Marius is fluent in English and French, and a native Romanian speaker.
