Giannis Armeftis is the Mayor of Limassol. He was born in 1971 and raised in Limassol. His parents are Andreas and Christina Armeftis. He is married to Marina Chatziloizou-Armeftis, and they have a daughter, Chryssilia. In 1994, he completed his studies in architecture at the School of Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 1995, he founded his own architectural firm, which evolved into Armeftis & Partners in 2004 and later into Armeftis & Associates in 2019. He received the State Architecture Award for Emerging Architects in 2007. His firm has distinguished itself in numerous architectural competitions and, in 2011, won First Prize in the Architectural Competition for the Redevelopment of the Laniteia Educational Institutions in Limassol. His firm's projects have also represented Cyprus in the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Awards. He is a member of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK) and the Cyprus Architects Association (CAA). From 2007 to 2016, he served as a member of the Limassol Municipal Council during the tenure of Mayor Andreas Christou. During this period, he chaired the Development and Tourism Committee, led the Democratic Party (DIKO) municipal group (2012–2016), and represented the Union of Cyprus Municipalities in the Council for the Study of Deviations (SYMEPA) from 2015 to 2017. He also served as President of the Pan-Cyprian Organization of Relatives of Fallen Resistance Fighters from 2018 to 2024. In 2014, he founded the Andreas Armeftis Foundation for the Study of Democracy, a non-profit scientific organization dedicated to promoting the values of democracy and reconciliation.
