Yiannis Karousos is a prominent Cypriot politician known for his dynamic leadership and dedication to public service. He studied International Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Surrey and earned an MBA from ESSEC Business School and Cornell University. His political career began in 2006 as a municipal councilor, and in 2013 he was elected Mayor of Ayia Napa, where he led major development projects including the creation of the MUSAN underwater museum. In December 2019, he was appointed Minister of Transport, Communications, and Works, a role he held until February 2023. In June 2024, he became the first President of the Famagusta District Self-Government Organization, and by January 2025, he was elected Vice President of the Democratic Rally (DISY). Karousos is widely recognized for modernizing infrastructure, promoting innovation, and advancing local governance in Cyprus.
