Haris Doukas is the Mayor of Athens and a Professor at the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering at NTUA. He is member of the European Committee of the Regions and serves as Vice-President and Executive Committee member of the Party of European Socialists (PES) Group in the European Committee of the Regions. His scientific and research expertise includes the development of decision support systems for energy and climate policy, with a strong emphasis on placing the human factor at the core of the modeling processes. He has nearly two decades of experience in designing policies and programs to promote renewable energy, energy efficiency, and management at national and European levels, as well as in Africa and the Arab states of the Persian Gulf. He has authored more than 150 scientific publications in peer-reviewed international journals, co-authored the Greek book “Multiple Criteria Decision Models for Energy and Environmental Systems,” the English book “Multicriteria Portfolio Construction with Python,” and the open-access book “Understanding Risks and Uncertainties in Energy and Climate Policy: Multidisciplinary Methods and Tools for a Low Carbon Society.” As Mayor, he is committed to leading Athens toward a net zero target by 2030, implementing science-based policies, advancing infrastructure, and fostering community involvement. His administration is currently addressing energy poverty through the newly established Energy Poverty Management Office, facilitating the installation of solar PVs on public buildings, expanding EV charging infrastructure, and enhancing circular economy practices. He is also spearheading the Athenian Energy Alliance, a collaborative network aimed at producing low cost, green energy through municipal-led energy communities. Additionally, he is overseeing an extensive tree planting program, with real-time updates provided via the Athens Trees app.
