Antonis Economides holds a BA(Hons) Accounting, Finance and Economics from the University of Essex, UK, as well as a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the European University of Cyprus . He worked at the audit firm Coopers & Lybrand (1993-1995), at the National Bank of Greece (Cyprus) Ltd (1995-1998) and from February 1999 until today, at the Civil Service of Cyprus. He has more than 20 years work-experience with Human Resource Management, dealing with HR issues for the Municipalities, Communities and other Non-Governmental Organizations, while he also served for 3 years at the Commissioner for the Reform of the Civil Service. He is the Director of the Local Government Directorate, Ministry of Interior, since July 2018, while on July 2022, he was promoted by the Public Service Commission, to the post of District Officer (Kyrenia). As the Head of the Local Government Directorate, he has been dealing with the supervision of the local authorities, the approval of their budgets, their staffing, the execution of development projects, as well as the Reform of the Local Government. He served as a member of the European Committee on Democracy and Governance (CDDG) of the Council of Europe, while now he is a certified reviewer of the GRECO Committee.
