Ta horiatika

Fotini Gallou was born in 1997 in Thessaloniki, but grew up in Proti, Serres, the village where her parents come from. They consciously chose to return to their place to raise their family. She studied Political Science at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, traveled to Europe through Erasmus+, worked in marketing, began postgraduate studies in Journalism and was active in volunteering. Although she had no previous experience in the business world, she was always fascinated by the idea of creation – starting something from scratch and supporting it with her soul. In 2018, she won the 1st Business Idea Award at the Entrepreneurship School by Coca-Cola, while in 2023 she was selected for 'The Break scholarship' in Spain for women entrepreneurs. Through this journey, she decided to return to Proti Serres and create something unique: the local newspaper "ta horiatika". Without funding or external support, but with endless passion and creativity, she started this venture. Everything goes through her hands: from writing and editing the articles, to distributing the newspaper door-to-door to the residents of the villages. The newspaper started with just 8 pages and, over time, expanded to 24 pages, gaining hundreds of subscribers in all over the country and abroad . At the same time, she created the website horiatika.gr, expanding her presence on the internet, building a community on social media with thousands of followers. Within two years since the founding of the newspaper, Fotini managed to interview the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. In January 2024, Fotini was invited to speak in the House of Parliament, at the Committee on Research and Technology, about social entrepreneurship, presenting the example of 'horiatika' for what it really is: a social enterprise that supports and is supported by the people themselves. Shortly afterwards, she had the first interview of Chief of General Staff of the Hellenic National Defence Force, Dimitrios Houpis, confirming that her journalism is not limited to the village limits — it reaches where there is something worth saying. Today, it continues with the same faith and a great goal: To make 'horiatika' a common place for all villages and to embrace stories, problems and dreams.
