Milva Ekonomi has been re-elected for the third time to the Albanian Parliament as a representative of the Durrës Constituency. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics and Economics from the University of Tirana, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the same University. She has also completed advanced training in the field of economic and social statistics, as well as statistical management at the Bureau of Labor Statistics (USA), Eurostat (Luxembourg), Istat (Italy). She served as Director General of the Institute of Statistics of Albania during the period 1994-2005, performing a variety of tasks in the functioning of official statistics. She was a member of the Bureau of the UNECE/UN Conference of European Statisticians. In early 2006, she became a member of the "PARIS 21" project panel (OECD), where she worked on the links between official statistics and human rights until the end of December 2007. During 2007-2013 she worked as a Statistical Advisor at the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR) in Kosovo on the project "On Support to the Statistical System and Preparation of the Population Census" and Sida/Sweden for the Kosovo Agency of Statistics. She has worked on various projects with UN Agencies and other organizations such as Eurostat, ILO, UNODC, World Bank, DFID and IMF. She is a member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and the Balkan Association of Statisticians. She is one of the founders of the "Agenda Institute", an economic and social research center, established in June 2006 in Tirana. She has contributed to the women's movement in Albania by being an activist in many initiatives and has strongly supported gender budgeting initiatives since the beginning. Ms. Ekonomi has been a lecturer at the University of Tirana, the Agricultural University and the "Lady of Good Council" University. During the years 2013-2015, she held the position of Deputy Minister of Health. From February 2016 to September 2017, she was appointed to the position of Minister of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Entrepreneurship. She coordinated the work of the PDNA technical group for the calculation of damages of November 2019 earthquake. She served in the Parliament of Albania as the Chair of the Committee on Economy and Finance until December 2020. The period December 2020 - September 2021 marks the time when she headed the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, then headed the Ministry of State for Service Standards until September 2023. She is a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Finance, and of the Committee on Social Welfare and heads the Subcommittee on Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs. Today she chairs the Committee on Economy, Employment and Finance in Albanian Parlament. She is fluent in English and Italian.
