Dr. Vassiliki Lazarakou is the Chair of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC), a position she has held since September 2019. She also serves on several key international regulatory bodies, including as a Member of the Board of Supervisors and the Management Board of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) since 2020 (term ending December 2025). Until December 2024, she chaired the European Supervisory Authorities’ Joint Committee Securitisation Committee (JCSC).

At the global level, Dr. Lazarakou has been a Member of the Board of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) since October 2022, representing the European Regional Committee (ERC), with her term running until May 2026. She also chairs IOSCO’s newly established Diversity Network (2024).

In addition, she has been a Member of the Bureau of the OECD Corporate Governance Committee since November 2022 and was elected Vice Chair of the Mediterranean Partnership of Securities Regulators for 2025–2026. She is also part of the Women Climate Leaders Network (WCLN) of the European Investment Bank Group.

Dr. Lazarakou holds a Doctorate in Law (JSD) and an LL.M. in International Legal Studies from New York University School of Law, as well as a Bachelor of Laws from the Athens University, School of Law. She is admitted to both the Athens and New York Bar Associations and has extensive legal expertise in capital markets, M&As, privatizations, and corporate and commercial law.

Prior to her regulatory roles, she worked for over 20 years as a partner at leading law firms in Greece, heading Banking, Capital Markets, and Finance departments for more than a decade. From 2012 to 2015, she also served as First Vice-Chair of the HCMC.
