Born in Nicosia in 1968. He graduated with distinction from Akropoli Lyceum in 1986 and, following service in the National Guard, studied at the National Technical University of Athens, from which in 1993 he received with distinction the Diploma in Civil Engineering and in 1997 was awarded, with distinction, a doctorate. He subsequently enrolled in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Athens, from which in 2004 he received a degree in Economics. In 1998 he was appointed Control Officer in the Control Department of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and gradually rose through all ranks, being appointed Director of Control in June 2010. On 11 April 2014 he was appointed Auditor General, a position he held until 18 September 2024. From June 2023 until his departure, he chaired the Contact Committee, which comprises the heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the EU Member States and the President of the European Court of Auditors. Since October 2024 he has been a Visiting Professor of Economics at European University Cyprus. In May 2025 he founded the political movement “ALMA – Citizens for Cyprus,” of which he is the leader. He is married to Nana Chrysostomou-Michaelidou and they have three children.
