Gerald Knaus is an expert in international politics. He is a regular lecturer on Southeast Europe at the NATO Defence College in Rome. He has held fellowships at the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States and the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna. He is the founding chairman of the European Stability Initiative (ESI) think tank whose work led to the 2016 EU-Turkey Statement on Migration. He lives in Berlin.
