Since March 2026, Dr. Korbinian Ibel serves as Director General of DGSIB, where he oversees the supervision of the systemic and international banks in the SSM. He previously spent a decade as a member of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision and was the Co-Chair of the Basel Policy and Standards Group, contributing to the development of global regulatory standards. Dr. Ibel joined the European Central Bank (ECB) in 2014. Until September 2020, he was Director General of Microprudential Supervision IV, responsible for horizontal supervision in the SSM. From October 2020 to February 2026, he headed the Directorate General Universal and Diversified Institutions. Before his supervisory career, Dr. Ibel worked in consulting and banking. He began at Accenture (1997–2000), then moved to The Boston Consulting Group as a Principal (2001–2007). From 2008 to 2014, he held several senior roles at Commerzbank, including Head of Asset Liability Management (Treasury), Chief Operating Officer for Central & Eastern Europe, COO Private Customers, and Divisional Board Member for Group Risk Controlling & Capital Management. Dr. Ibel studied economics in Munich and Rotterdam, and earned his doctorate (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Frankfurt.
