Kiril Petkov served as Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria from December 13, 2021 to August 2, 2022. During the second caretaker cabinet of President Rumen Radev, from May 12, 2021 to September 15, 2021, he held the position of Minister of Economy. In 2018, Kiril Petkov established the Center for Applied Research and Innovation in Natural Sciences (CASI) at the Faculty of Biology of Sofia University, aimed at Bulgarian students in the natural sciences. Kiril Petkov is one of the founders of the Center for Economic Strategy and Competitiveness at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” affiliated with Harvard University. At the Center, he teaches economic development and microeconomics of competitiveness. He has extensive experience as an entrepreneur and develops projects in the field of high value-added innovation, as well as business in the development of probiotics and biotechnology. Kiril Petkov holds a degree in Finance from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class.
