Dr. Konstantinos Karantzalos, Secretary General for Telecommunications and Postal Services Dr. Konstantinos Karantzalos (http://users.ntua.gr/karank) is a Professor of Remote Sensing at the National Technical University of Athens. He serves as Head of the Greek Delegation to the European Space Agency (ESA) and coordinates the Greek delegation to the European Commission’s Directorates-General DG DEFIS and DG CONNECT on matters related to space, telecommunications, and other emerging technologies. He has more than 20 years of research experience and has participated in and coordinated over 30 European and national research programmes of excellence and competitiveness. He has served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Space Center (HSC) and coordinated the design and implementation of the National Small Satellites Programme, as well as HSC services related to Earth Observation satellite mission planning. Dr. Karantzalos has acted as an evaluator (Evaluator / Panel Member) for European and national research programmes of organizations including the European Commission, the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, the Israel Science Foundation, the Belgian Science Policy Office, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, and the Cineca Consortium of Italian Universities, among others. His professional, research, and teaching interests include space systems, robotics, geosciences and earth observation, environmental mapping and monitoring, management and analysis of Geospatial Big Data, as well as computer vision and machine learning. He has published extensively in leading international scientific journals and has received several distinctions for his scientific contributions. Dr. Karantzalos is a Senior Member of IEEE, serves as Chair of the ISPRS Working Group III/2 “Spectral and Thermal Data Processing and Analytics”, and participates in the Organizing and Scientific Committees of major international conferences such as IEEE IGARSS, IEEE WHISPERS, and ISPRS Congress / Geospatial Week Workshops.
