 Han Lamers is Professor of Classics at the University of Oslo and Director of the Norwegian Institute in Rome, Norway’s foremost humanities centre abroad. Trained in Classics and Art History at the Universities of Leiden and Leuven, he holds a PhD in the Humanities from Leiden University and has taught and conducted research at several universities across Europe. His work centres on the cultural history of Ancient Greek and Latin, with particular emphasis on the reception of Ancient Greek in the early modern period, and he has led a number of international projects in this field. His research explores how the Greek language and its heritage were transmitted, used, and reimagined beyond the Greek-speaking world, and how Greek culture helped shape, and continues to shape, European intellectual life. His work on the subject has appeared in a wide range of international publications and was recently featured in media outlets including CNN Hellas.
