Mihai Popșoi is the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, a position he has held since 2024. Before joining the Government, he served in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova from 2019 to 2024, including as Deputy Speaker of Parliament and, from 2021 to 2024, as Leader of the parliamentary faction. During his parliamentary tenure, he was a member of the Foreign Policy and European Integration Committee, Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on the Association of the Republic of Moldova with the European Union, Co-Chair of the Moldova–Poland Parliamentary Assembly, and Chair of the Parliamentary Monitoring and Oversight Commission on the Implementation of the Reintegration Policy of the Republic of Moldova. In 2022, he also served as Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. From 2017 to 2024, Mihai Popșoi was Vice-President and International Secretary of the Action and Solidarity Party. Prior to entering politics, he worked as a political analyst and public policy consultant on political and security risks, collaborating with institutions including the Jamestown Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute, IHS, Chatham House, Global Focus, the Foreign Policy Research Institute, and the Foreign Policy Association of Moldova. Earlier in his career, he worked in the Political and Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Moldova and served as Project Manager at the Information and Documentation Centre on NATO in Moldova. Mihai Popșoi holds a PhD in Political Studies from the University of Milan. He earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Central European University and the University of York, where he received both the Academic Excellence Award and the Best Thesis Award. He also holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Political Science from Moldova State University, both completed summa cum laude, and was an Erasmus Mundus student at Middle East Technical University in Ankara.
