Jean Valvis

Jean Valvis

President & CEO

Valvis Holding SA, Greece

Jean Valvis is a third-generation Greek from the Diaspora. His grandparents emigrated from Santorini in 1905. Born in Athens in 1954, he grew up in Geneva and Athens, graduating as an architect-engineer from the National Technical University of Athens (Ε.Μ.Π. - 1979) and earning an Advanced Graduate Diploma (DEA) in Architectural Aesthetics from the University Paris I, Pantheon Sorbonne (1980). He holds Greek and Swiss citizenship. In 1993, he arrived in Romania with a defining ambition: to transform the country's exceptional natural resources into globally recognized premium brands. As founder of Valvis Holding S.A., he introduced a series of firsts—Romania's first still mineral water (Izvorul Alb, 1997), the country's first UHT milk factory (LaDorna, 1998), and the first certified organic product in the Balkans (LaDorna Bio, 2002). His entrepreneurial trajectory culminated in three landmark transactions with global corporations — Coca-Cola (2002), Lactalis (2008), and PepsiCo (2022) — making him the only entrepreneur in the world to have successfully negotiated with all three. His outstanding brand, AQUA Carpatica, launched in 2010, is the world's only naturally sparkling mineral water with zero nitrates, now present in 28 international markets. His portfolio extends to Domeniile Sâmburești — a historic 500-hectare wine estate first documented over 400 years ago—acquired and revitalized in 2005;Dorna Agri, managing 10,000 hectares of organic cereal farming;and renewable energy projects, including photovoltaic parks and energy crops. Rooted in his Santorini heritage, Valvis has also been developing the Santorini Valvis Volcanic Spa (SVVS) in Megalochori, Santorini, since 2012 — a strategic investment recognized by the Greek Government under Greek legislation (ESXASE), reflecting both its scale and its significance for the island. The SVVS aims to offer Santorini an alternative model of high-quality tourism, one centered on the island's exceptional natural thermal resources. The thermal spring at Platinamos has already been formally recognized and certified by the Hellenic State as a therapeutic spring, with documented healing properties across 28 categories of medical conditions. The energy powering this remarkable spring is drawn directly from the ongoing volcanic activity of the island. The SVVS project does not have an environmental impact, proposing small villas equipped with thermalism infrastructure as well as a center of thermal spa for the local population. Through the Valvis Foundation, he supports children with disabilities, healthcare initiatives, and Greek-Romanian community associations in Iași, Brăila, and Galați, having awarded scholarships to over 120 children since 2010. Jean Valvis embodies a rare intersection of innovation, creativity, sustainability, and entrepreneurial excellence — a visionary who transforms natural resources into legacy brands while championing responsible and green business practices for future generations.
