Michael Sket is Deputy Head of Unit in the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) since 2022. He is currently the responsible country manager for monitoring the implementation of Greece’s Recovery and Resilience plan and for the economic surveillance of Greece. He has extensive experience in forecasting, economic and fiscal surveillance as well as structural analysis, gained inter alia in the context of the economic adjustment programmes for Romania and Greece as well as the macroeconomic and fiscal surveillance for Italy and Finland. He joined the European Commission in 2011 and has worked since then in DG ECFIN with an interruption in 2015-2017 when he joined the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) as Senior Country Economist for Greece. Prior to joining the European Commission, he worked at Deutsche Bundesbank (Economics Department). He holds a Masters’ Degree in Economics from the University of Münster and a PhD from the University of Düsseldorf.
