Prof. Nikolaos Farantouris, Member of the European Parliament and Jean Monnet professor of EU & Energy Law at the International & European Studies Department, University of Piraeus, Greece. Member of the Committees on Budgets (BUDG), Environment and Food Safety (ENVI), Security and Defence (SEDE) and Co-ordinator of the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO) of the European Parliament. Member of the EU-US and EU-PanAfrican Parliamentary Delegations. Attorney at law since 2001. He studied law at the University of Athens and completed a Master’s degree (MJur) in European and Comparative Law and a Doctorate (DPhil) in European Law, both at the University of Oxford. He has published 11 monographs, textbooks and edited volumes and more than 60 papers in top scientific legal journals and periodical editions. Ηe has served as Board member of thw Hellenic Competition Commission, a Board Member, General Counsel and Chairman of the Board of the Public Gas Corporation of Greece (DEPA) S.A., Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee of EUROGAS in Brussels and a member of the Energy Committee of the Academy of Athens. Married, 3 children.
