Shoresh Ismail Abdulla Biography Shoresh Ismail Abdulla is the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). He was born in 1956 in the Malkandi neighborhood of Sulaymaniyah. In 1970, he was admitted to Shoresh Secondary School and later graduated from the Sulaymaniyah Industrial Institute. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Revolutionary and Military Career 1974: He joined the ranks of the Kurdish National Liberation Movement (the Revolution of the Kurdish People). 1975: He joined the Komala. 1976: He joined the early primary Peshmerga detachments, marking the official beginning of his lifelong journey in the Peshmerga forces. Throughout his years of struggle within the Kurdish liberation movement, he served as a high-ranking military commander within the Kurdistan Peshmerga Forces. Due to his political and revolutionary activism, his father and brother were martyred by the former Ba'athist dictatorial regime. Post-1991 Uprising Positions & Public Service Following the 1991 Kurdish Uprising, he assumed numerous senior leadership positions and responsibilities, including: 1992 – 1993: Head of the Sulaymaniyah Leadership Center (Melband) of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK). Subsequent Roles: Head of the PUK Military Bureau and Head of the Sharazoor Leadership Center (Malband). 2000: Appointed as the Head of the Martyrs’ Institution (Dezgay Shaheedan), and later served as an Administrator of the PUK Bureau of Organization. 2007 – 2019: Head of the PUK Elections Institution. 2019 – Present: He was appointed as the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs in the Ninth Cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, a portfolio he continues to hold to this day.
