Ianis G. Matsoukas is a senior higher-education strategist and academic leader specialising in international higher education, university governance, strategic development, and institutional reputation. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick and undertook postdoctoral research at Cornell University, ETH Zurich, and Warwick. With an early career in translational biomedical research and subsequent leadership roles in the biotechnology sector, he brings a strong scientific and evidence-based perspective to higher-education strategy, medical education, and university–industry engagement. He currently serves as Deputy Principal for Strategic Projects & Reputation Management at Keele University – Greece, where he is also a member of the Academic Council. His portfolio spans institutional strategy, international positioning, major strategic projects, and the development of new academic initiatives, including the establishment and development of Keele University’s European campus in Greece and its Medical School. Previously, he held senior academic and executive roles in UK higher education, including Associate Professor, Head of a British Business School, and an executive role within the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. In these positions, he contributed to institutional strategy and business planning, including the development of a new Medical School at University of Greater Manchester. He has undertaken executive education at Wharton, and Harvard Medical School and contributes regularly to international higher-education dialogue through Times Higher Education, QS, British Council and other global platforms. He is also a frequent speaker at international higher-education conferences and fora.
