Ioannis Balampanidis was born in Thessaloniki in 1980. He studied law and political science in Greece and France. He holds a PhD in Comparative Politics from Panteion University and has taught at Panteion University, Democritus University of Thrace, and the Hellenic Open University. At Metron Analysis, he works as a Political Analyst and Head of Political & Social Research.
Among other publications, he has authored the essay The Ideas of Progress and Conservation (Polis, 2022), the monograph Eurocommunism. From the Communist to the Radical Left in Europe (Polis, 2015 – and in English by Routledge, 2018), as well as the novel The Song of the Heirs (Polis, 2026). He has contributed to numerous collective works in Greece and abroad, and has collaborated with the newspapers To Vima, Ta Nea, Kathimerini, and EfSyn.
