Dimitris Kairidis

Minister of Migration and Asylum

Dimitris Kairidis was sworn in as Minister of Immigration and Asylum on June 27, 2023. Elected for the first time as a Member of Parliament in the national elections of July 7, 2019, in the B1 North Sector of Athens, with New Democracy. He was re-elected in national elections on 21 May and 25 June 2023.

During his first parliamentary term, he was a member of the Production and Trade Committee, First Vice-President of the European Affairs Committee, a regular member of the Greek delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and head of the Greek delegation of the Parliament to the Conference on the Future of of Europe, where he was elected Co-Chairman of the Working Group on Migration. He also served as President of the Greece-Israel Friendship Parliamentary Group, was a member of the inter-parliamentary cooperation group 3+1 Greece, Israel, USA, Cyprus and coordinator for financial issues in the Inter-Party Committee for the Development of Thrace.

He is Professor of International Relations at Panteion University. He studied Law at Aristotle University and International Relations at the Fletcher School at Tufts University in Boston, where he completed his PhD. He taught International Politics at Harvard, Tufts and Macedonia universities. He has written dozens of articles, studies and books. He has worked in Greece and abroad, in the public and private sector, in education and the management of programs and organizations, as an expert and scientific advisor to institutions and the government.
