Mr. Jacek Czaputowicz was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland from 2018 to 2020. In 1970s and 1980s, Mr. Czaputowicz was an activist for the democratic opposition. Due to his political activity he was interned in December 1981 and imprisoned in 1986. In 1988-1990 he served as a member of the Civic Committee to the Chairman of the Independent and Self-Governing Trade Union Solidarity (NFZZ Solidarność).

Mr. Jacek Czaputowicz joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1990, he served as the Director of the Consular and Emigration Department (1991-1992) and the Deputy Head of the Civil Service (1998 – 2006). Between 2006-2008 Mr. Czaputowicz was in charge of the Department of Strategy and Foreign Policy Planning at the Ministry. Additionally, between 2008 to 2012 he headed the National School of Public Administration. From January to September 2017 he was at the helm of the Ministry’s Diplomatic Academy. Subsequently, he took charge of legal and treaty affairs at the Ministry as an Undersecretary of State in September 2017.

Mr. Czaputowicz graduated from the Warsaw Central School of Planning and Statistics. He completed his Ph.D. thesis in political science at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences PAN. He obtained his habilitation in humanities at the University of Warsaw’s Faculty of Political Science and International Studies. He also completed postgraduate studies at foreign universities (Oxford, among others). Mr. Jacek Czaputowicz wrote over 100 research papers and scientific monographs in the field of European integration at the Institute of European Studies at Warsaw University.
