Born in Augsburg in 1965, Markus Ferber initially worked as a development and sales engineer in the fields of microelectronics and environmental technology before being elected to the European Parliament (EP) in 1994 to represent Swabia.  From 1994 to 1999, he was Spokesperson for the Young Group of the EPP Group, and from 1996 to 1999 Parliamentary Manager of the CDU/CSU Group in the EP. From 1999 to 2014 he was chairman of the CSU group.  

From 2014 to 2018, he served as First Vice Chairman in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. Since 2018, he has been the Coordinator of the EPP group in this committee. In addition, he held the position of District Chairman of the CSU Swabia until 2023.  

After having served as Vice Chairman of the Hanns Seidel Foundation for six years, Markus Ferber was elected Chairman of the foundation in January 2020.

- 1999 - 2014 | Chairman of the CSU European Group in the European Parliament

- since 1999 | Member of the CSU party board  1999 - 2005 | Chairman of the CSU in the district of Augsburg

- 2000 - 2021 | State Chairman of the Europa-Union Bavaria

- since 2005 | District Chairman of the CSU Swabia

- 2005 - 2014 | Member of the Executive Committee of the CSU

- since 2013 | Spokesman of the Parliamentary Group of Small and Medium-Sized Businesses in the European Parliament

- 2014 - 2018 | First Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in the European Parliament

- since 2018 | Coordinator of the EPP Group in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in the European Parliament
