Michalis Mathioulakis is an Energy Strategy Analyst. He is the Academic Director of the Greek Energy Forum, a Research Associate for the energy sector at the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) and an external Advisor on strategy and organizational issues to the office of the President of RAE, the Greek Regulatory Authority for Energy.

He has substantial working experience in the financial sector as a stock and derivatives broker and analyst, as well as the private education sector as a lecturer of Finance and Risk Analysis in Executive MBA programs. He has also been the Research Director of the Hellenic Energy Regulation Institute in Greece, responsible for research related to energy regulatory issues.

In connection to his primary academic research interest for the relation between energy and geopolitics, he has been a Research Associate for the energy sector in MENA and Eastern Mediterranean for the "Thucydides" Chair in Strategic Studies in the Department of International and European Studies of the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki Greece, providing regular reports to the Hellenic National Defence General Staff.

For the past years, he has been providing consulting services regarding energy strategy, management, and energy regulation for institutions and organizations associated with the energy sector.

He has published several of his research, either as book chapters in collective volumes, or papers in scientific journals and international conferences, and has been the editor in a collective volume titled “Aspects of the Energy Union - Application and Effects of European Energy Policies in SE Europe and Eastern Mediterranean” published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2020 that has entered, among others, at the suggested library catalogue of the College of Europe.

He holds an MSc in Energy Strategy Law & Economics from the University of Piraeus, an MSc in Strategic Studies from the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, a BA in Economics, and a BA in Political Science. His research with the Department of International Studies in the University of Macedonia focuses on the correlation between Balance of Power and Energy Security, and in particular on the security dilemmas generated by shifts in energy security.
