Gregory Stamatopoulos was born in Athens. He is a graduate of the Jesuit College of Saint-Michel in Brussels and holds an MBA from the Athens University of Economics and Business, a Master's degree from Anglia Ruskin University in International Business Economics, a Bachelor’s degree in Investment & Financial Risk Management from City University and a Bachelor’s degree in Business & Management from University of Maryland University College. He has also attended the Executive Management Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Digital Business Strategy.

With over 20 years of experience in the private sector in high-level positions at companies such as Ernst & Young, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Eurobank, Macoil, etc., In 2014, Gregory decided to become an entrepreneur creating his own start-up by raising funds from Greek and foreign investors. 

He has been a member of several Boards of Directors in Greece and abroad, including companies listed in the Athens Stock Exchange.

He was included in Fortune magazine's list of "40 under 40" in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
In September 2019, he was appointed as General Director of the Export Credit Insurance Organization (ECIO) by the minister of Foreign Affairs, the Greek state-owned Export Credit Agency. In March 2022, a new law was voted at the Greek parliament for the reform of the ECA, with ECIO becoming Export Credit Greece S.A. (ECG).
