He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Athens, where he also completed his PhD thesis. After specializing in Internal Medicine and Nephrology at “Laiko” General Hospital, he gained experience in Renal Transplantation, kidney immune diseases and renal osteodystrophy at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, UK, through a scholarship of the European Union. He has served as the Director of the Department of Nephrology and Renal Transplantation at “Laiko” Hospital (2003-2022), as well as Chief Medical Officer (2005-2020). He was appointed Professor of Ιnternal Medicine and Nephrology of the Medical School of the University of Athens (2013), serving as Director of Internal Medicine Department (2017-2019). He is serving as President of the board of administration of Onassis Cardiac Surgery Center (2019-current).

He regularly participates in international working groups in the field of kidney transplantation and kidney immune diseases. With more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, he is a reviewer and member of editorial committees of Greek and International Nephrology journals. Recently, he has been elected member of the ESOT council and president of the ESOT Conference 2023, taking place in Athens.
