Michael Tsangarides is a Political Economy student at Princeton University in the US. He was selected as the 2022-23 Princeton Novogratz India Scholar which is a 9-month scholarship located in India exploring India’s formation/evolution. After completing the scholarship program, he was employed by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations -the secretariat to the G20 Expert Group on reforming Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs)- contributing to research on MDB reforms. He then proceeded to visit China and Indonesia to further pursue his learning quest on the changing world order. Michael has privately met and discussed the changing world order with former World Bank Chief Economist and China State Counselor Justin Yifu Lin, former Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Deputy Governor of India’s Reserve Bank Rakesh Mohan, India’s former Foreign Ministers Shyam Saran and Shivshankar Menon; former Managing Director for Development Policy at the World Bank and Indonesia’s former Trade Minister Mari Pangetsu, Indonesia’s former Finance Minister Chadib Basri, etc.
In his younger years, Michael served as the Speaker of the Cyprus Children’s Parliament (CCP) advocating for legislative reforms in education, health, and the justice system. He was also selected by Eurochild (a European Commission-patroned network of organizations from across Europe working for children's rights) as a member of the organization’s eight-member youth advisory body to advocate for children’s rights on the European level.
Michael is a member of Oxygono’s Executive Board where he assembled and coordinated a group of experts from the country and abroad in analyzing the subversive ramifications of the Cyprus Attorney General’s unchecked prosecutorial discretion for the rule of law on the island and the need for pertinent reforms.
