Nikos Tachiaos was born in Thessaloniki in February 1962. He is married and has one son.
He is a chartered land and property surveyor with a degree from the Aristotle University of
Thessaloniki, and has worked as a freelancer in the field.
Besides Greek, he speaks English, French and German.
He was an active member of the New Democracy Youth Movement during his student years,
and from 1987 to 1990 served as president of the Thessaloniki branch of the New
Democracy Youth Movement. For five consecutive four-year terms, from 1987 until 2006
(when he decided to retire), he was elected city councilor of Thessaloniki. From July 2007
through October 2009, he served as Deputy Secretary General for International Economic
Relations and Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2004
through 2010, he was a member of the Managing Committee of the Technical Chamber of
Greece. From September 2019 through June 2023, he served as Chairman of the Board of
Directors of Hellenic (former Attiko) Metro S.A. In June 2023, he was appointed to the
position of Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, with oversight for infrastructure
issues, in the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. In the course of his professional career he
has gained substantial experience in public administration, public contracts for surveys and
projects, regional planning, environmental issues, and property and land valuation.
His twenty-year tenure in the city council of Thessaloniki left a significant and successful
legacy.
