Martin Hagström

Ambassador of Sweden in Cyprus

Ambassador Hagstrom started his work in Nicosia, Cyprus in the autumn of 2022. Before that he served as Inspector General at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs 2019-2022. For the duration of 2021, he was part of the Task Force of the Swedish OSCE Chairpersonship, with a special responsibility for protracted conflicts. In the spring of 2022, he joined a Task Force dealing with the consequences of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Previously Mr. Hagstrom has served as Ambassador of Sweden in Kyiv, Ukraine (2016-2019) and Ambassador-at-large for the EU Eastern Partnership (2013-2016). Earlier positions at the Ministry and abroad include: Head of Division for Eastern Europe (2010-2013), Counsellor at the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the European Union in Brussels (2007-2010) and Consul at the Consulate General of Sweden in Saint Petersburg (2004-2007). Mr.
Hagstrom started his career at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2002. Before joining the diplomatic service, Mr. Hagstrom worked as a journalist. Mr. Hagstrom was born in 1973 and currently lives in Nicosia with his family.
