Mission of Albania to the EU

Mrs. Suela Janina exercises the function of the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to the European from November 4, 2014.
Mrs. Janina graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Tirana and received the Master degree in Democracy and Human rights, a diploma accorded jointly by University of Sarajevo and University of Bologna. Ambassador Janina holds a PhD in international law by the University of Tirana.
Ambassador Janina is a career diplomat. She joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in August 1999 where she had previously a number of diplomatic appointments. Prior to assuming her current position, Ambassador Janina was holding the position of General Director for Multilateral Relations.
Ambassador Janina has a wide experience with international organizations. From May 2011, she has been elected as a member of United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances, and held the position of the Chair of CED. She is appointed as an Alternate Arbitror at the OSCE Court of Conciliation and Arbitration and member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration.

    The EU enlargement process, especially in relation to the Western Balkans, has been brought once more to the forefront of the Union’s agenda, due to the great geopolitical shifts in the EU neighborhood. With diverging opinions on that matter, a political chess-game has been underway in Brussels and European capitals on how to proceed. EU Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen unveiled a new Western Balkans support plan last May, while a summit of Western Balkans leaders in Athens in August paved the way for future developments.
